I have some news to share. First, I am now a full-service Silver Reed Knitting Machine
dealer . This means that in addition to the basic LK-150 knitting machines that I have been
carrying, I now carry all varieties of metal bed machines. I have punchcard machines that
allow you to create all kinds of color and textural designs by pre-punching a card that
moves the needles similar to the way that a player piano moves the piano keys. My current
favorites–also available–are the electronically driven machines that interact with my
computer. If you’re thinking about an upgrade to a more versatile machine or you want a
second machine that will knit finer or bulkier yarns, give me a call. I am happy to
demonstrate the options available.

My Alhambra Vest was just published in the Summer 2008 issue of Knitwords, a
Canadian machine knitting magazine. I don’t know what thrills me more, seeing my design
published in a magazine or receiving an intermediate/advanced rating by the editor. I am
also working on a hat design for a spinning book that will be published next year by
Interweave Press. Sharing my work, ideas, and process with others who are similarly
passionate, is just so personally gratifying and inspiring (view vest in the Gallery).
Happy knitting and best regards,
Nancy Roberts
I have teamed-up with Loretta Warner to teach two five-week machine knitting classes this
summer [see the attached flyer for the details]. Loretta is a longtime fashion designer and
instructor in the Fashion Department at San Francisco City College. She is a true artisan
and master craftswoman who continually studies both fashion and art in the exploration of
possibility. She uses all things colorful and tactile to create beautiful clothing and art (see
Classes & Workshops page).
People have been asking me to teach how to dye yarns made from plant fibers. I have
been doing some work with these dyes lately and I will be ready to offer classes soon. I am
hoping to schedule a Machine Knitting to Dye For class in August. In this class students
learn how to use a knitting machine as a tool for dyeing self-stripping yarn.
